When asked to describe what exactly it is that I do … I find myself taking a moment to think about what the correct response should be. Some regard me as a physical therapist because of my manual therapy and clinical expertise in evaluating and treating physical dysfunction. Others look upon me as a psychologist because of the amazing results achieved in eliminating the emotional basis for traumatic stress, negative limiting beliefs, allergies and physical illness. And yet there are those who consider me a Qigong Master because of my ability to sense, identify and eliminate blocked and stagnant energy in the body through my Applied Qigong Therapy treatments, and also because of the Qigong Energy Movement classes that I so enjoy teaching.
What I do and Am, it turns out, is my PASSION! My Passion is Mastery, which is expressing and evolving itself through my conscious ever-expanding Love of serving others through my heart, mind and hands.
Looking back at my evolution, I can clearly see the pattern of my unwavering (well…there were a few times when I wavered) one-pointed determination to attain the highest levels of personal and professional growth. It is the combination of these two factors that made possible transcending from mediocrity and uncertainty, to knowing and owning the Extraordinary Greatness that I, and WE, are.
From this realization, it becomes clear to me that what I am evolving as and Am is a Master Healer. The time, discipline and tens of thousands of dollars being spent on developing my therapeutic skills have been essential in creating the vehicle through which my passion is expressed. However, the Mastery comes in the ability to be present, aware and centered, allowing for the space to be created where healing occurs.
Knowing, trusting and accepting the latent ability to heal within each of us is one of the basic principles of my healing philosophy. Unlike the myopic “fix it” method of health care where the focal point is the symptom or effect of dis-ease, our approach is holistic, where the focus is on the Cause. Taking this approach allows people being treated to take responsibility and make the necessary adjustments in their lives so that the offending conditions do not recur.
I take responsibility for my work to heart. I know that the clearer I am with my life, the clearer the results in my work. I can only ask of you what I can ask of myself, and the bar is raised high. We expect to be Victorious and demand it. Our success is the result of acknowledging our greatness, our true Self, our perfection. And in this perfection we come to realize that dis-ease cannot exist.
So this is who I am and what I do. This is my Passion.

Energetic Psychology by Joey Raines

The other day I was treating one of my patients for chronic hip and shoulder pain and while I was doing so I asked how things were going in her life. After a few seconds she became visibly emotional and her eyes welled up with tears. “I’m so overwhelmed at work I don’t know what to do,” she said. She explained that because of her responsibilities as a business owner and administrator she often found herself faced with an apparently insurmountable workload that triggered in her an overwhelming feeling of anxiety and desperation. She realized that this pattern had been repeating itself for as long as she could remember and that her health and energy levels had gradually begun to deteriorate. “What am I going to do?” she asked. “I can’t go on living like this. Can you help me?”…
A few years ago I began studying and applying in my practice a new cutting edge therapy called TAT (Tapas Acupressure Technique). Developed by Tapas Fleming, L.AC. This relatively new treatment approach is a miraculous healing tool that combines lightly holding a few acupressure points on your head (the TAT pose) as you put your attention on a problem (the Steps of TAT). With TAT you can profoundly improve any aspect of your life by changing or rather dissolving your current point of view (of the problem). As you begin doing TAT, there is a sense of entering through a “Portal of Divine Grace” wherein your problem surrenders and dissolves in Divine Unconditional Love and Light. When you’re done with the problem, you’re done with it. It’s not going to resurface at a later time for it no longer exists!
We proceeded to do TAT on her stated problem and after about 25 minutes all the negative emotions that she previously had related to were nowhere to be found. Her entire countenance had transformed from one of resigned despair to this bright exuberant being who seemed to have had the world lifted off her shoulders. Indeed it was a sight to behold. What was equally astounding (but not surprising) was that on her subsequent visits she reported that her workload had remained consistent and in some instances she had less time to do the work, yet she was totally undisturbed by this. She knew that her work would be done in a timely manner, except now she had a sense of confident composure. “I feel so at peace and present to my life,” she said. “I don’t know how to thank you for what you’ve done Joey.” “You know who to thank,” I said, as we looked each other in the eyes and smiled in acknowledgment.
Sharing this with you gives me the opportunity to shed light on amazing new therapies that are emerging. The greatest thing about TAT is that its so easy to understand and apply that almost anybody can do it. I recommend that you be trained and treated by a qualified TAT Professional until you become familiar and comfortable with the steps of TAT. In no time at all you’ll be able to use TAT on yourself and begin to transform for the better any aspect of your life. To that end, know that the possibility to free yourselves from the shackles of fear and doubt exist, so that you may transform your life from mediocrity to greatness.

Your health is a direct reflection of the quality and flow of your energy. The more freely your energy flows the better you will feel both mentally and physically. Energy blockages and stagnation are caused by stress, trauma and especially negative emotions (Anger, hatred, envy, resentment etc.). Over time these conditions show up as different ailments throughout your body such as chronic pain, irregular bowel movements, fatigue and so on. Consciously making an effort to live a balanced life allows your energy to flow unobstructed.
There is an inseparable relationship between energy and life that must be understood. Energy is the underlying current from which your life, thoughts and actions spring forth. Life and energy are one.
You use energy to think, feel, speak, and move about. All physical actions require the use of energy. When you come to this realization you are able to take action that allows you to maximize the flow of your energy. This is done through constructive living and thinking.
It goes without saying that the more energy you have the better you feel and visa versa. Your energy and health are one and the same. The state of your health is the measure of the flow and quality of your energy. Therefore, the more constructive your feelings and behavior, the healthier you’ll tend to be.
From exercising to a more balanced diet, there are many things that you can do to improve the quality of your life. There are disciplines, ancient and modern, that focus on increasing the awareness of energy and the ability to direct it consciously. Some of these disciplines include Qigong, Meditation, Yoga and Tai Chi.
Qigong, originating in the Far East almost 5,000 years ago, is a series of gentle, slow moving concentration exercises that increase your awareness and ability to direct energy through your intention. Tai Chi, evolving from Qigong, is known for its graceful almost dance- like flowing manner of moving and balancing energy. Yoga and Meditation, having their origins in the spiritual cradle of India enable you to withdraw from the senses and quiet the mind allowing for the possibility oneness with the infinite, the source of Joy and unconditional Love.
Applied Qigong Therapy and acupuncture remove energy blockages and stagnation. The softening and releasing of connective tissue allows more flexibility and range of motion. This is accomplished through Myofascial Release. The calming down of the nervous system and elimination of pain at reflex speed is accomplished with Pain Reflex Release Therapy (PRRT). Strain Counterstrain (SCS) works in a way similar to the nurturing reassurance of the devoted mother to her child.

Qigong (chee -gong) Therapy is an extremely effective therapeutic bodywork that uses the energy or the universal essence that flows throughout the entire human body and all living things. It is based on the same systems used in acupuncture, oriental medicine, and many other bodywork therapies.

Qigong Therapy combines hands on and hands off energy techniques that balance the flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body; moves and relieves Qi blockages, and improves circulation. Patients claim to feel relieved, better, relaxed, lighter and looser after sessions. Qigong Therapy is very effective in relieving acute symptoms, body aches, pains and illnesses. It is an excellent way to relieve chronic pain and aid healing of all kinds of health conditions.

For the sake of the integrity, we ask students to be aware that a good name is not always a guarantee of a good product. When looking for a teacher or school, it is a good idea to consider the following qualifications:

1. How long has the teacher studied Qigong specifically?

2. Who was the teacher’s teacher?

3. Have the teacher and the students experienced remarkable health benefits, and have they “felt the Qi?”

4. If the teacher is a “Master” — does he perform healing, and can he offer patient or student referrals?

5. Can the teacher relate the full theory of the form and adequately answer any of your questions?

Qigong is a life discipline – long hard hours of practice and experience are essential to make it a career.
